Cocaine's a Hell of a Drug
Man who licked blood from victim's rings gets life in prison
Associated Press
LUBBOCK — A West Texas man who licked the blood off a slain woman’s rings before pawning them has been sentenced to life in prison.
A jury in Lubbock on Wednesday convicted 37-year-old Anthony Torres of capital murder.
Prosecutors did not seek the penalty so Torres gets an automatic life prison term over the June slaying of 27-year-old Amanda Moreno.
A coroner determined Moreno died of asphyxia and blunt force trauma. Police say Torres had lived with Moreno.
Investigators say Torres killed Moreno to rob her and get crack cocaine. Torres also told Lubbock police that he licked the blood off Moreno’s rings, while stealing the jewelry, to avoid suspicion while pawning them.
Moreno’s two daughters, who were 6 and 2, were unharmed when Torres took them along as he sought drugs.
I find it somewhat troubling that the Houston Chronicle included this story in their Wacky section, almost as trouble as this guy licking a lady’s blood off her rings before pawning them. I guess this guy has never heard of water and a dish towel. In fact if he were really being thorough he might try some jewelry cleaner and a toothbrush. But when you’re in a hurry to score crack I guess you don’t consider those things. Well he’ll get plenty of time to lick things in prison when he meets the Tossed Salad Man.
