Grumpy Old Man
Stranger accused of slapping kid at Wal-Mart
Police: Stranger warns mom about crying child, then slaps 2-year-old girl at store

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) — Police say a 61-year-old man annoyed with a crying 2-year-old girl at a Wal-Mart slapped the child several times after warning the toddler’s mother to keep her quiet.
A police report says after the stranger hit the girl at least four times, he said: “See, I told you I would shut her up.”
Roger Stephens of Stone Mountain is charged with felony cruelty to children. It was unclear if he had an attorney and a telehpone call to his home Wednesday was unanswered.
Authorities say the girl and her mother were shopping Monday when the toddler began crying. The police report says Stephens approached the mother and said, “If you don’t shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you.”
Authorities say after Stephens slapped the girl, she began screaming.
Okay, before we string this guy up at town square, let's try to put ourselves in his shoes. Who hasn't wanted to slap the hell out of a kid at Wal Mart? It happens to me every time I'm there. This guy had probably just had enough. Like Michael Douglas in 'Falling Down.' Plus, the lady should have known this guy was crazy enough to slap a kid. I took one look at his mugshot and could tell his was one bear claw short of a dozen. He looks like they dug up Walter Mathou and shocked him with a cattle prod for an hour. Mad Boy, why you so mad?

WTF?!?! Kyle, nothing you have ever posted has made me want to leave a comment so badly. Did this article so anything about how the mother reacted to this man hitting her child. As a mother, if someone hit my kid (warning or not) they would wish they were dying before I was threw beating them. I may be small but I would hit a man. I do agree with you that he is one mad looking man! He is obviously a real mental case. This story, while only slightly humorous (maybe b/c I am a mom), disgusts me.
ReplyDeleteYeah I meant what I wrote entirely in jest. You can't go around beating children in Wal Marts. It's an unqritten rule. Or is it written? It's written somewhere probably.
ReplyDeleteThe article cut off there. It never mentioned how the issue was resolved aside from pending litigation.
