College Football Wrap-Up

I didn't get to watch much college football this weekend. We headed over to the Jones Stadium at about 1 p.m. and tailgated until 6 p.m. Then I made it over to watch Ohio State vs. USC, but I don't remember too much of that! But I've got a few thoughts so I'll stumble through what I think I know.

Obviously, the big shocked for everyone was Oklahoma State going down at the hands of the Houston Cougars. Ordinarily this would have been most upsetting for me since I has Okie St. at pre-season #5, but luckily for me, Kelsey decided to crown the Pokes as his national title pick only hours before their demise. I love my friends.

After the game there was mass hysteria in Lubbock as most Raider fans were fearing a loss to Houston more than one to Texas. I guess they figure the loss to Texas is unavoidable and they're probably right. I wouldn't worry too much about Houston though. Usually these types of wins are anamolies, ala East Carolina last year. Sure, I could be wrong and Houston could be the next Boise State, but I'll take my chances.

Notre Dame vs. Michigan

From the little bit I got to see this looked like a truly special showdown. It was two programs down on their luck, battling for a pivotal win, much like the FSU/Miami game last week. Much like I was with Miami last week, I'm impressed with Michigan. Rich Rod's ability to rally his team was remarkable. But lets hold back. Notre Dame isn't the 07 Patriots. Jumping Michigan into the Top 15 is a bit rash. Notre Dame still looked good offensively and should be able to put together a 3-loss season, but the national title picks by Holtz and Beano Cook were ridiculous.

The Big 12 North

Just like I predicted, Colorado lost to Toledo. It could be because the Buffs were playing on four days rest or it could just be because they suck. I'm not a soothsayer so I don't know for sure. Don't expect things to get any better. Things aren't good in the Little Apple either as K-State lost to Louisiana Lafayette one week after pulling out a late win against UMass. Bill Snyder must be having a great time. That's why octoganerians shouldn't coach football, aside from Paterno and Bowden. And finally, Missouri needed every second of its game to beat Bowling Green. Maybe Nebraska will do the division a favor and get back some respect against V-Tech this week.

Tennessee vs. UCLA

So the Vols aren't quite as good as I thought, but UCLA isn't an awful team. The real problem for Lane Kiffin is that Florida seemingly couldn't wait to get done with Troy so it could start chomping at the bit to get a hold of the Vols. This may get really ugly this weekend. A least Lane Kiffin still goes home to that every night.

My Picks

If you've been using my picks as a betting guide, you may want to stop. I picked 3 out of 7 right last week. 4 of 8 if you count my unofficial Toledo over Colorado pick. I may suck at making picks but I'm going to stay at it.
