They're Playing Football!

What To Watch For This Weekend

We've got a great slate of games this week beginning with a doozy tomorrow night. It's Miami vs. Georgia Tech. GT was an utter surprise last season, taking the ACC by storm with the triple option. Miami is a once proud juggernaut that earned back a few shreds of national dignity against Florida State. Now Jacory Harris and his band of young pups have to step up with games against GT, V-Tech and Oklahoma. If Miami's D can slow down Jonathan Dwyer and Anthony Allen at RB, they can go to 2-0.

Tennessee at Florida

I'm going to go Mr. T on this one. My prediction: pain.

Washington at USC

I'm not going to pick Washington, but this is the kind of game that has plagued USC in the past. They get up for a huge challenge and then fall apart against a less talented team. The Huskies certainly fill that bill with an 0-12 record in 2008, but Steve Sarkisian has Washington playing well. If Jake Locker gets hot, this game could get exciting.

Michigan State at Notre Dame

Everyone pointed to the Michigan/ND game last week as the tell for Notre Dame's season. ESPN's band of the elderly said that if the Irish beat the Wolverines they could go into USC undefeated and if ND lost, they could fall apart. I think this week's game is probably the better tell. Michigan State is a much improved team under Mike Dantonio. If ND starts 1-2 things, Weis may end up dusting trophies at Tom Brady's lake house.

Nebraska at Virginia Tech

Here's the big game Nebraska has been waiting for in the Bo Pelini era. Last year's close call against the Hokies was the first indication that things were getting better under Pelini. If the Blackshirts can slow down Tyrod Taylor and make him one dimensional they could start the wheels in motion to a fantastic season. Now if Sam Bradford could only reaggrevate that shoulder against Texas.

Texas Tech at Texas

I've been expecting this game to be a full fledged blowout, but I'm starting to change my opinion. I think Tech can keep this thing withing three touchdowns for sure. We could potentially be talking a 10-point game. I haven't seen the spread yet so I'll wait until tomorrow for my pick. It's just hard to re-focus a football team. I don't think Colt McCoy's revenge automatically spells a blowout.
