Top 5

College Football Programs
#4 Nebraska
- Why don't we just go ahead and get this out of the way. Go ahead, take your shots but with the exception of Oklahoma in the 1950s noone was as dominant over a 5 year stretch of time than Nebraska was from 1993-1997. Not to mention noone was as consistently good over a 30 year stretch from 1970-2000.

The Huskers have five consensus national titles and three Heisman trophy winners but what may be their greatest addition to college football is their fans. Nebraska has sold out each home game since 1962. Sure, they've fallen on hard times but every program does. Some just get back up.

I know I'll catch Hell for putting NU in the Top 5 so here's a rebuttal for fans of each team that feels deserving.

- Ivy League - the landscape of college football has changed too much to put an Ivy league team in. Sure, Princeton has the most national titles ever with 28 and Yale is 2nd with 27 but they won a lot of those with what were basically rugby rules. When it got serious the Ivy League checked out.

- Michigan - most of what goes for the Ivy League goes for Michigan, aside from the checking out part. The Wolverines have remained a strong competitor in the modern era by only 1 consensus title of their 22 national titles comes after 1950. And that one was BS anyway.

- Texas - The Horns are making a strong presence to get back in but the sharp decline in the 80s and early 90s hurts a lot. Maybe if Darrell Royal wouldn't have hung it up so soon he could have won another couple of titles and sealed UT's place in the Top 5. Too bad.
