Top 5
So I heard lots of great things about last week's Top 5 while I was out on the road last week. So we're going to keep it going this week with a bit of a sports feel. The Top 5 college football programs of all-time. Keep in mind this isn't just the modern era. It's the whole enchilada.
#5 - (Tie) Ohio State and USC.
I really couldn't decide which program was better. Maybe I should have called it a Top 6 list but that would have made the nickel graphic obsolete.
Ohio State has four consensus national titles and six non-consensus. They developed into a college football power under the leadership of Woody Hayes and continued a winning tradition under John Cooper, competing for a national championship each year. But Cooper was marred by a bad record against Michigan and the Buckeyes tabbed Captain Sweater-vest Jim Tressel to lead them. It looks like that has worked out pretty weel for them. Among the Buckeyes' claims to fame are the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin and the tradition of dotting the 'i' at home games, which I have seen live.
Southern Cal is also no slouch with six consensus national titles. They have dominated the college football landscape under legendary coach John McKay and now under Pete Carroll. Among the Trojans' claims to fame is being home to Runningback U. The school has churned out great backs like Charles White, O.J. Simposn, Marcus Allen, Lendale White and Reggie Bush. They're also not bad with QBs with Carson Palmer, Matt Cassell, Matt Leinart and J.D. Booty on NFL rosters right now. Plus they sing a mean rendition of 'Stand By Me.'
Thanks to Muench for passing that along.
