College Football Top 25

Not too much of a shake up at the polls aside from LSU losing. There were some good games Saturday, especially the night games and there's even more coming up this weekend. It's all starting to take shape.

1. Florida (1) - I thought about moving Alabama to the top but I liked the way Florida's defense stepped up against LSU. Plus Jeff Demps had a good game as the primary runner for the team. Up next: Arkansas
2. Alabama (3) - The Crimson Tide continue to impress with a 22-3 thrashing of preseason media darling Ole Miss. We all know the SEC is the league of defense and the Crimson Tide have it in spades.
3. Texas (2) - The Longhorns struggled early and often against Colorado and only got back into the game because of multiple mistakes by the Buffs, specifically QB Cody Hawkins. Colt McCoy will have to do better against OU this weekend.
4. Boise State (5) - I don't penalize teams for taking a week off so Boise gets to move up a spot. The Broncos better keep it up because I'd love to drop them.
5. Virginia Tech (6) - The Hokies blew previously undefeated Boston College out 48-14. Ryan Williams is chewing up the ground at RB and Tyrod Taylor remains efficient. But can they keep it up? This week: Georgia Tech.
6. Cincinatti (7) - The Bearcats took last week off and you may have noticed because Coach Brian Kelly had his ugly mug on ESPN last week. But I like him anyway.
7. USC (8) - The Trojans took the week off to get ready for a battle with the Fightin Irish. Could be a good one.
8. Ohio State (9) - The Buckeyes throttled previosuly undefeated Wisconsin 31-13. As expected OSU has rolled since losing to USC and could finish 11-1.
9. Oregon (13) - I'm usually not so quick to leap a team up the rankings but I like the way the Ducks are playing after beating UCLA 24-10, even without injured QB Jeremiah Masoli. Up next: Washington.
10. LSU (4) - I can't beat the Tigers up too much for losing to the #1 team in the nation but after an offensive showing like that, Jefferson, Lafell and Co. better pick it up.
11. TCU (10) - The Horned Frogs had a tough game with Air Force last week, winning 20-17. TCU needs to be winning conference games by more to impress the BCS.
12. Iowa (18) - I wanted to see Iowa win another big game after Penn State before I started drinking the kool-aid. Michigan may not be a juggernaut but its a good win.
13. Penn State (12) - The Nittany Lions did nothing to drop in the rankings but after proving its legitimacy Iowa had to come up.
14. Nebraska (16) - The offense and special teams sputtered for three quarters but the Blackshirts held strong. Nebraska clearly is in the drivers seat in the North.
15. Miami (17) - The Canes spanked Florida A&M last week after their great 3-1 start.
16. Oklahoma State (11) - Dropping OSU five spots should show everyone how much I think of A&M. Oklahoma State's defense is really, really bad.
17. Georgia Tech (15) - The Yellow Jackets gave up a few too many yards to Florida State last week for my liking. The Seminoles have looked hapless at times this year but FSU rolled up 45 points on GT.
18. Oklahoma (20) - Sam Bradford looked good in his return to the field, leading OU to a 33-7 win against Baylor. Now he must get ready for the Longhorns. This will be a huge game.
19. Notre Dame (21) - The Fightin' Irish have a huge game with rival USC this week. If they can get that win then Clausen vaults to the top of everyone's Heisman list and ND could be back in the BCS race.
20. Kansas (19) - Kansas struggled with Iowa State last week and is going to need to play better if the Jayhawks want to stay undefeated.
21. Mississippi (14) - Ole Miss has looked hapless on offense at times this year and last Saturday was no exception. Jevan Snead needs to step it up.
22. BYU (22) - The Cougars beat up on UNLV 59-21 and could keep rolling against inferior opponents.
23. South Florida (24) - The Bulls took last week off. Smart move.
24. South Carolina (25) - South Carolina eeked out a tough 28-26 win against Kentucky last week. Giving up 28 to UK isn't the way to convince everyone the Cocks have the best defense in the land.
25. Houston (NR) - I'm still not wild about Houston but the Cougs have two quasi quality wins. Putting them at #25 won't hurt.
