They're Playing Football!
Lots of good games this week, including the Red River Shootout, Notre Dame vs. USC and my alma mater vs. my favorite team. It's all day football fest. Of course it always is. Here's a rundown. Keep in mind the ranking listed are the BYB ratings.
#6 Cinicinatti at #23 South Florida
Nobody circles the wagons like the South Florida Bulls. Unless of course its the Cincy Bearcats. They circle the tanks. South Florida usually makes a habit of starting the season impressively and then falls apart. I'm not sure if that will be the case this year but I'm not going to go out on the South Florida limb. I'll take the Bearcats.
#24 South Carolina at #2 Alabama
The Gamecocks have a great defense but its not going to matter against Alabama. The Crimson Tide has a great offense and a great defense. Mark Ingram is running the rock well and Greg McElroy is pacing the squad. I think Bama rolls again.
#4 Virginia Tech at #17 Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech has looked up-and-down this season. The Yellow Jackets had a lot of success running the rock against Florida State. They flustered the hell out of Bobby Boweden. But Bud Foster coaches a good defense. Much better than Florida State's. I think Va Tech keeps it going this week.
#12 Iowa at Wisconsin
Brett Bilema looked like he lost his best friend last week when Ohio State was opening a can of whoop-ass. Wisconsin and Iowa are two programs that have had consistency problems. This battle may send someone back to the Big Ten middle. I'll take Iowa to keep rolling with Ricky Stanzi at QB.
RED RIVER SHOOTOUT
#18 Oklahoma vs. #3 Texas
OU looks resurgent with Bradford back at QB, while Texas struggled with Colorado. I'm not necissarily sure that means anything but Its good to be playing well going into the game. Both teams have failed to impress this season but one is 5-0 and the other is 3-2. I may be crazy but I think when its over Oklahoma WON'T be .500. OU wins.
Texas Tech at #14 Nebraska
People who don't know me very well always assume I'm emotionally torn over this game. People that know me too well get mad that I'm not in the slightest bit torn over this game. Don't get me wrong. I've buried the corpse of 70-10 long ago and I hold no more grudges, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see the same score in this game, just in Nebraska's favor. I think the Blackshirts will continue to disrupt at the line and push Stickfield out of the pocket. Luckily for him he can run. The key will be Suh and Co. getting their hands up and slapping down balls. They have been able to do so thus far this season and I can't see that ending now. It'll be closer than I'd like but Nebraska gets it done.

Agree on all but one. I think the Hawkeye streak ends this week. I like the Badgers.
ReplyDeleteV Tech goes down by 14+. Nebraska big. Cincy without a struggle. Bama by halftime. Iowa loses by blocked field goal that doesn't go across the line. And the Cooder Graw: Texas wins with 350yds plus for Pistola McCoy
ReplyDeleteNot sure about V-Tech but the rest of that sounds pretty plausible.
ReplyDeletefear the triple option.
