Clark's Top 25
The first BCS ratings are out and Florida is on top. But in the AP and the Clark ratings there is a new #1. Last week's rank in ().
1. Alabama (2) - The Crimson Tide rolled again with a convincing win against South Carolina. What's even more impressive is that RB Mark Ingram rumbled for 246 yards against the Gamecocks. He belongs in the Heisman discussion.
2. Florida (1) - I don't expect the Gators to win big every week but after a close call against Arkansas, I can't see not rewarding Bama. Tebow did have a good game though.
3. Texas (3) - Texas' offense has failed to generate the yards, TDs and excitement we all expected coming into the season, but the Horns keep winning. This week they go to Mizzou.
4. Cincinatti (6) - I was really impressed with the way the Bearcats played against South Florida, especially after starting QB and Heisman candidate Tony Pike went out with an injury. Can Cincy keep rolling though?
5. Boise State (4) - I didn't really want to drop Boise but after Cincy beat an undefeated team and Boise eeked out a win against Tulsa I had to. The Broncs better hope Oregon keeps winning or they may keep getting dropped.
6. USC (7) - I'm not too impressed with the Trojans, especially after they gave up a big lead late against Notre Dame, but I'm not sure if the Trojans will lose again.
7. Oregon (9) - The Ducks took last week off. Well played.
8. TCU (11) - I blasted the Horned Frogs for playing close against lesser opponents. Their response - a 44-6 win against Colorado State.
9. Iowa (12) - Solid win for the Hawkeyes against Wisconsin and Iowa is now in the driver's seat in the Big Ten. This week the Hawkeyes have Michigan State. If they can get past Sparty they'll have two layups before facing Ohio State.
10. LSU (10) - Is LSU the best one loss team in the nation right now? I'm not sure but if the Tigers keep winning the BCS computers will keep pushing them up.
11. Penn State (13) - With Iowa sitting undefeated the loss to the Hawkeyes doesn't look that bad. The Nittany Lions may not be out of the Big Ten race yet.
12. Miami (15) - Jacory Harris looked sharp again with a 20-26, 293 yard, 2 TD performance against Central Florida and he keeps himself in the Heisman discussion.
13. Georgia Tech (17) - GT won the game against Virginia Tech with QB Josh Nebit completing only one pass, with an interception. But he ran for 122 and 3 TDs. So much for making the Jackets one dimensional.
14. Virginia Tech (5) - Virgina Tech's two losses have come to pretty good teams but its narrow win against Nebraska looks even worse now. They need Miami to keep winning to look good in comparison.
15. Oklahoma State (16) - The Pokes looked good in a win against Mizzou but the narrow win against Texas A&M two weeks ago now looks pretty bad. I'm not sure how good Okie State really is.
16. Houston (25) - The last thing I would have thought I'd been doing last week is jumping the Cougars nine spots this week. But the wins against Tech and OSU look a lot better now.
17. BYU (22) - That loss to Florida State still looks terrible but if the Cougars keep winning it won't matter.
18. Ohio State (8) - The loss to Purdue might be unforgivable and Terrelle Pryor looks awful throwing the rock. With games against Iowa, Penn State and Michigan looming the Buckeyes need to do some serious soul searching.
19. Mississippi (21) - The Rebels did about the smartest thing possible last week. They took the week off.
20. Notre Dame (19) - I guess I had to drop the Irish after the loss, but I can't see dropping them much. You have to be impressed with they way ND got back into the game late.
21. Utah (NR) - Utah is #18 in the first BCS poll after a 35-15 win against UNLV. Next up - Air Force.
22. Texas Tech (NR) - The Red Raider defense looked quite impressive slowing Nebraska down in Lincoln. How good are the Raiders? We might now know for sure until the road trip to Okie State next month.
23. Pittsburgh (NR) - Despite playing in the lowly Big East the Panthers are 6-1 as Coach Wanstache may actually fulfill expectations this season.
24. West Virginia (NR) - The Big East race looks like its going to get pretty interesting with undefeated Cincy and three teams with one loss overall, one of which is the Jarrett Brown led Mountaineers.
25. Oklahoma (18) - This ranking isn't a punishment for the Texas loss. Obviously losing by 3 to the Horns isn't that bad. But how much can you like a team devoid of breakout offensive weapons and with an injured QB. It could get worse for OU.
My soapbox moment - How freaking stupid must the coaches be to still have Kansas ranked in the Top 25? The Jayhawks lost to Colorado, which up until that game didn't have a pulse. Obviously they must not get FOX Sports Southwest because Kansas should be ashamed of that loss.
