I'll Take A Big Mac - Hold the Crazy

Maybe if Al Davis Had Ordered in Chinese Food, Things Might Have Been Different
Last Angry Fan.com

If you’ve ever needed an explanation as to how detrimental it is to the Oakland Raiders to have Al Davis running the show, well look no further. It’s over…done.

Sean Payton has had a ton of success since taking the head coaching gig in New Orleans, culminating in a Super Bowl win this past season. But before he took the Saints job, Payton was courted by a few other teams, Davis’ Raiders included.

Davis, looking to make an strong impression, asks one simple question of Payton before conducting his interview…and it has nothing to do with football or coaching philosophy. According to a passage in his new book, Home Team, Davis asked Payton, “You like cheeseburgers?” Odd question, no? Hold on, because it gets worse.

Moneybags Davis then went all out, and bought the pair some McDonald’s hamburgers and KFC cole slaw to dine on. Needless to say, Payton was less than impressed with the spread. Sure, Oakland wasn’t the most appealing head coaching gig out there, but who knows–had Davis sprung for some Chinese food, or even taken Payton out to an Applebee’s, things might have turned out differently for Sean Payton and the Raiders organization.

Instead Payton went on to great success with the Saints, and Al Davis continued his downward spiral into insanity unabated.

We turn from an outspoken Red Raider to a crazy, old Raider. Honestly, this story didn't suprise me one bit. Okay, I was a little suprised that Al Davis paired cole slaw with cheeseburgers. It doesn't seem to be a good combination. Plus, you know the Raider intern that had to go to McDonald's and KFC for that old fossil's lunch had to be mad as hell. Why can't he eat fries like a normal person? But the fact that Al Davis would try to woo a head coach with McDonald's didn't shock me a bit. At this point nothing about him would suprise me. In fact, if he hired Grimmace as his next defensive coordinator and made stopping the Hamburglar his top priority I wouldn't bat at eye. Plus, I doubt the Raiders would be in any better shape if they had gotten Payton. Odds are Davis would have fired him three weeks in for not taking the fastest player in the draft.
