Facebook censors nipples on $40K doll

Facebook does not allow images of female nipples on their site, including breast-feeding nipples and expensive doll nipples.

When Australian jewellery designer Victoria Buckley posted pictures to her Facebook page that showed a naked porcelain dolls modelling with her jewellery, Facebook told her take them down.

The photos were in contravention to their terms of service, Facebook's message said.

“I was totally shocked when the images were removed. These same images are appearing uncensored in mainstream media around the world, and had been on Facebook for six months,” Buckley told QMI Agency. “I'm tired of the female form being an object of prurience exploited by men. I think people are so becoming used to the female form as a symbol for lust, that they have trouble reading it as a representation of other values.

Buckley calls the dolls — which were created by Marina Bychkova for Enchanted Dolls and are worth between $6,000 and $40,000 US — “fine art” that shouldn't be censored.

“I have to say, I'm not a doll lover. In fact, I loath 99.99% of dolls. Enchanted Dolls are art works,” she said. “For me, they are best seen, not covered. The detailing of their bodies is what wipes our eyes clean and gives the slight 'shock of the new' that partly defines a true art work."

Nevertheless, she didn't want her Facebook page to be taken down, so she put black censorship bars over the offending bits, and re-uploaded them to a new Facebook page called “Save Ophelia — exquisite doll censored by Facebook.”

Facebook shut down the page within 48 hours.

I could care less about seeing doll nipples. Unless we're talking one of those really expensive and extravagant sex dolls then I'm not interested. But this story does make me think - can you show the rest of the breast? If that's the case then chicks could just have a bunch of pictures with nipple tastles or stars on and if so, why don't more girls have photos like that? Let's get to work on that ladies.
