PETA Attacks Bird
PETA asks Bird to stop endorsing McDonald's

PETA hopes to help draw attention to the plight of birds by appealing to another bird. Larry Bird, that is.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter on Wednesday to the Indiana Pacers president, asking him to stop endorsing McDonald's
PETA claims that in McDonald's U.S. operations, "chickens still have their throats cut while they are conscious and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks," while McDonald's European operations render chickens unconscious before they are processed.
"With the nagging back problems that plagued him throughout his career, Bird is the first person who should sympathize with the millions of chickens who are killed for McDonald's -- chickens whose wings, legs and backs are routinely broken," PETA director Dan Shannon, who describes himself as a lifetime Boston Celtics fan, said in a release.
Bird has appeared in McDonald's commercials dating to his playing days in Boston and was in another that debuted during Sunday's Super Bowl.
Bird was out of town Wednesday and unavailable for comment, a team spokesman said.
Does PETA have some sort of quote where they have to make some assanine request of a public figure at least once a week? Its bad enough they're calling for robot mascots in sports but now they have to bother basketball legends. What's worse is that they had the gaule to compare Bird's crippling back injuries to the injuries sustained by McDonald's chickens.
I'm geeked for the PETA pricks that they love animals but animals don't have the same righst as humans and if I and Larry Bird want to eat them, we can. They don't have big enough brains to understand they situation they're in. If I was Larry Bird I'd do my next press conference dressed as Ronald McDonald while eating chicken nuggets. Someone needs to stand up to these assholes. Maybe Dan Shannon should spend a weekend tied up in Mike Vick's back yard.
