Preseason College Football Top 25 Countdown - #11 Oklahoma

The college football season is less than three weeks away and as I try to pass the time between watching baseball highlights and Brett Favre speculation, I can't wait for the gridiron action to get started. So, if we can't watch football, we're going to talk football. So let's continue the Preseason College Football Top 25 Countdown.

#11. Oklahoma Sooners - Sam Bradford going down in 2009 was a major blow to Oklahoma. A prospective national championship contender instantly turned into an 8-5 team. But what was a worst case scenario last season will likely pay dividends for the Sooners this year as Landry Jones now has a year of experience under his belt.

Jones' top target and Biletnekoff candidate Ryan Broyles returns this season as does star running back DeMarco Murray. The skill players abound for the Sooners so if the line can quickly replace standouts like Trent Williams and protect Jones then there is reason to be excited.Defensively, the Sooners lose Gerald McCoy but return star linebacker Travis Lewis and DE Jeremy Beal.

Oklahoma has not performed well on the road in recent years so road games at Missouri, Texas A&M and Cincinnati will be tough as will the annual bout with Texas in Dallas. This squad might not be quite good enough to topple Texas in the South but the Sooners will be in the race.
