Preseason College Football Top 25 - #23 Penn State
The college football season is less than one month away and as I try to pass the time between watching baseball highlights and soccer celebration dances, I can't wait for the gridiron action to get started. So, if we can't watch football, we're going to talk football. Welcome to the Preseason College Football Top 25 Countdown.
#23 - Penn State Nittany Lions - The Nittany Lions biggest story going into 2010 is what to expect at quarterback after the conclusion of the much maligned but impressive career of Daryll Clark. Career backup Pat Devlin jumped ship shortly before last season and now Penn State must start 2010 with unproven passer Kevin Newsome.
The Nittany Lions must also content with the loss of linebacking stars and NFL draft picks Navarro Bowman and Sean Lee and star defensive tackle Jared Odrick. Undoubtedly, when the Nittany Lions struggle to rebuild this season there will be calls for Joe Pa's head once again. But the aging offensive mind can rely on a player who will likely become his all-time leading rusher in Evan Royster (1,169 yards rushing in 2009) and Outland Trophy hopeful Stefen Wisniewski. Meanwhile, the defense will look to rebuild quick around DE Jack Crawford.
This certainly won't be a talentless team for JoePa but road games against Alabama, Iowa and Ohio State are going to do them in.
