Preseason College Football Top 25 - #24 Auburn
The college football season is less than one month away and as I try to pass the time between watching baseball highlights and soccer celebration dances, I can't wait for the gridiron action to get started. So, if we can't watch football, we're going to talk football. Welcome to the Preseason College Football Top 25 Countdown.
#24 - Auburn Tigers - The Gene Chizik era got off to a much better start than many expected in Auburn last season with the Tigers going 8-5 and notching a hard fought, overtime bowl win against Northwestern. Auburn's offense exploded under the direction of offensive coordinator and Houston Nutt's #1 enemy Gus Malzahn. The Tigers finished second in the SEC in total offense with former Red Raider QB Chris Todd running the show. This season, the Tigers will look to Florida Gator transfer Cam Newton to continue where the 2009 O left off.
Sixteen starters return for Auburn this season including potential All-SEC receiver Arvin Adams and center Ryan Pugh. The Tigers will need to show improvement on defense but they can rely on senior leadership and two great defensive minds in Chizik and coordinator Ted Roof.
Games against Clemson and upstart Arkansas will be difficult but its possible to see Auburn 9-0 heading into the Georgia game (providing the Tigers beat LSU).
