Violence: A staple of U.S. education
Teacher allegedly tosses stapler, hitting student
AP
PHILADELPHIA -A Philadelphia school teacher is under investigation for allegedly throwing a stapler that struck a student in the head. The mother of a 15-year-old boy said she took him to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he received four stitches in his forehead Friday afternoon.
School district spokesman Fernando Gallard confirms that the male teacher threw the stapler when his class became unruly. Gallard said the stapler bounced off a wall and struck the student.
The mother said the incident happened as her son was passing the classroom and stopped at the door to talk with a friend.
Gallard declined to name the teacher but said he has been reassigned to an administrative office pending a "full investigation."
Okay, from what I can gather this may be the grossest miscarriage of justice in U.S. history. I don't even think Teach meant to hit the kid. It would have been one thing if he hurled the stapler at the kid but it sounds like he just through it against the wall to get the class' attention and inadvertently hit some passerby. We have to give teachers some room to experiment with discipline. Torture is never okay but enhanced discipline tactics are okay. That means stapler tossing is in!
