Crockett lockdown
BY ROY WAGGONER
On the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, Crockett Junior High went through a lockdown lasting almost two hours Monday after Odessa police received an anonymous call saying a student was on campus with a gun.
It was all a hoax.
Crockett went into lockdown around 1:15 p.m. and came out right before 3 p.m., causing students to sit in dark classrooms for nearly two hours as police officers with drawn weapons searched each classroom and the roof for signs of any shooters. ECISD and Odessa police blocked Conover Avenue during the episode.
"There was nobody. It was all a hoax call," school district communications director Mike Adkins said. He said the investigation into who placed the call is ongoing and no information available. He said a false report involving a school can lead to felony charges, and he didn't know if the hoax was related to the Columbine anniversary.
Parents streamed into the school as soon as the doors opened, many to pick up their kids.
"I had to leave work because I couldn't concentrate anymore. It's scary," parent Norma Lara said.
Nearby Pease Elementary went into shelter-in-place during the ordeal, meaning students continued normal activities inside classrooms but exterior doors were locked. Crockett's lockdown meant all doors, interior and exterior, were locked. Classroom activities ceased as lights went off.
It was the second incident involving Crockett and Pease within the last week.
Rest of story here.
With all these crazy kids and their hoaxes and school lockdowns its a good thing I'm getting out of the neighborhood. It's only a matter of time until these ruffians from the junior high locate the BYB and declare war on headquarters. They might egg me or steal my big screen. I could maybe fight off one or two with my Maglite but if there's more than 3 I might catch a whippin.
P.S. There's a good photo of cops with guns on Crockett's roof but they copyright their photos. Bastards!
