Paint It Black
Huskers shut down Oklahoma
BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star
They will be toasting the Blackshirts into the wee hours.
Pick a name and pass your compliment. Ndamukong Suh. Phillip Dillard. Matt O’Hanlon. Prince Amukamara.
Those guys will be giving Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones nightmares tonight and likely several days after that.
In a showdown of great defenses, the Huskers emerged victorious 10-3 Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Suh was a beast. O’Hanlon had three interceptions. Anything less than great by Nebraska’s defense and there would have been some tears spilled on Nebraska’s side of the aisle.
But Nebraska’s defense was great and then some.
How bout them Blackshirts? Nebraska's defense shut down Oklahoma better than any other team has all season and got back in the drivers seat for the Big 12 North Championship with a 10-3 win against the Sooners. Honestly I watched this game wondering when the other shoe was going to drop. After being entirely shut down in the first three quarters it looked as if OU were finally going to break through late. They would make it into Nebraska territory but time and time again the Blackshirts came up with a big turnover as OU QB Landry Jones played his shakiest game of the season.
The win has been big for Nebraska. They have picked up three committments for the 2010 class this week including a DT from Aldine, Texas who could be the heir apparent to Suh in the middle.
The only distressing part of this game was the switch at QB from Cody Green to Zac Lee. Nebraska made the switch when it was First and Goal from the 1 yard line. Lee threw a one yard TD pass and then did pretty much nothing the remainder of the game. If NU keeps Green in, he can sneak the ball in and he gets a shot of confidence. Now he may be shaken. Nice coaching Shawn Watson. Now its on to face the Preseason Paper Champion, Kansas. I hope Todd Reesing is in a running mood.
