Back in my day...

Lee High coach investigated
BY LEE SCHEIDE/Odessa American

Midland Lee High football coach Randy Quisenberry was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday as Midland Independent School District released a statement saying that it is investigating allegations of "unprofessional treatment of students" by the coach.

Little information was released Tuesday. Numerous phone calls for comments from MISD Superintendent Sylvester Perez, Executive Director of Athletics Todd Howey and Midland Lee High principal Stephanie Howard about the situation all were referred to MISD communications director Woodrow Bailey.

Those answering the phones at MISD refused to put calls through to the superintendent or athletic director, instead saying that Bailey would handle all requests for comment. Bailey refused to elaborate on the accusations against Quisenberry.

"The statement is all the information I have," Bailey said. "This involves district personnel and students, and we have to follow the correct procedures.

"The investigation is ongoing and will takes its course before a decision is made," Bailey said.

Quisenberry took over the Midland Lee program in 2004 and has guided the Rebels to a 30-27 record that includes playoff berths in each of the past five seasons.

Before coming to Midland Lee, Quisenberry, a 1975 Permian graduate, was the head coach at Abilene Cooper and Odessa High and an assistant coach at Permian.

His current contract is set to expire at the end of the school year.

So while I was in South Texas this story jumped off in the Permian Basin. I can't get into particulars because I don't know any but odds are one of these whiny ass, Zac Efron loving, The Hills watching leaders of our future can't handle constructive criticism like 'you suck' or 'pull your head out of your ass.' In my day coaches were given the room they needed to groom finely tuned athletic machines. This is a sad day for us all.

  2. While I never graced the gridiron I have always been a physical specimen. I could throw a football over a mountain if need be.
