Why Is Wishing Obama Anything but Success Considered Close to Treason?

Rush Limbaugh started a firestorm in January when he told FOX News Channel’s Sean Hannity he wanted Barack Obama’s socialist policies to fail.
Months later, it was revealed that an August 2006 Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll found 51 percent of Democrats hoping that then-President George W. Bush would not succeed.
While folks on the right jump with joy over this seeming absolution of Limbaugh’s guilt, one has to wonder whether such numbers should be at all shocking.
The argument today is that wishing ill upon President Obama is unpatriotic because of the fragile condition of our economy — but it is a metaphysical certitude that Washington and Lincoln presided over a much weaker nation than what we are facing in 2009.
Is it really wrong or even unpatriotic to want the president and/or his policies to fail? Hasn’t this likely been the case in this country since its very birth?
It is an indisputable, historical fact that many Colonists did not support independence from England, and were hoping with all their heart and all their soul that President George Washington would fail.
Less than a century later, likely half the nation hoped President Abraham Lincoln didn’t succeed in defeating the Confederacy.

This from the same network that told us if we were against the war in Iraq then we basically hated the troops and if we didn't agree with Bush's policies then we were siding with the terrorists.
Glad to see the shoe is on the other foot. Now I wish it were just shoved up Rush Limbaugh's pill popping ass.

Isn't it the point of democracy/ the democratic system that the USA has adopted -- to let everyone's voice count? Let's not question the media for what they report, but question the people who report to the media. Everyone's opinion is a voice for someone to listen to in this political system. I applaud the media agents who are trying to continue with objectivity, even if the news is bad, and continue to let the people decide. I like to believe the media agents are open to interpretation, just like the stories they report.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. To watch scathing attacks from the Fox News’ and the Limbaughs of the world towards anyone that wasn’t in lock-step with Bush policies was upsetting. But to now see the same people act in the manner they attempted to destroy is sickening. I agree with some of the policies Fox and Limbaugh champion, but to call yourself “Fair and Balanced” you can’t be transparent with your bias.
