Clark's Top 25
Here's the final Top 25 poll of the year. Its been a wild ride. I called some right and some wrong. But mostly right.
1.Alabama (2) - I knew after I knocked Bama down to #2 that the Tide would eventually be back in the top spot and I was right. Great performance by Ingram and the Tide against the Gators. Ingram is probably your Heisman winner.
2. TCU (4) - Yeah I said it. I know I'm a bit biased but I don't think I can vote for a team that just had both its offense and defense exposed in back to back games. TCU is one of the hottest teams in the nation and deserves a shot at the big boy.
3. Texas (3) - I'm tempted to put Cincy here but my hate for Brian Kelly precludes it. I understand UT won but McCoy looked shaky and was bounced around like a rag doll. And two weeks ago the Longhorn DB core was burned like toast.
4. Cincy (5) - The Bearcats overcame a great performance by Pitt in the virtual Big East Championship. I'm sure Pitt's kick holder is still sick.
5. Florida (1) - Despite a lackluster performance against Bama I still think Florida is a good team and much better than Boise. I expect the Gators to beat up on Cincy in the Sugar Bowl.
6. Boise State (6) - I know Boise is hot but the competition is just to bad to put the Broncos in the Top 5. Maybe Boise beats TCU and proves me wrong but I doubt it.
7. Ohio State (7) - The Buckeyes have been drinking coacoa and playing Monopoly for two weeks while the rest of the Top 10 takes shots. Gotta love that Big Ten scheduling.
8. Oregon (8) - The Ducks won a squeaker against Oregon State to move on to the Rose Bowl against the Buckeyes. It could prove to be a great game but I think Oregon may roll.
9. Iowa (9) - Iowa clinched a spot in the BCS and have a good shot at winning as they face an up and down Georgia Tech squad. Bad news - the last team that Iowa saw that ran the option was the Northwestern squad that gave the Hawkeyes their first loss.
10. Georgia Tech (10) - The Yellow Jackets edged out Clemson 39-34 to earn a spot in the Rose Bowl. The bad news is that in its last two games GT has allowed more than 500 yards rushing as C.J. Spiller ran for 230+ last week.
11. Virginia Tech (11) - The Hokies took last week off. Well played. Now VT gets to face the fighting Lane Kiffins of Tennessee in the Chik-fil-A Bowl.
12. Penn State (12) - As Bowden walks into the sunset Paterno keeps cranking out wins. Paterno is going to have a chance at a big bowl win against LSU in the Capital One Bowl.
13. Miami (13) - The Hurricanes were a bit up and down this season but had a few signature wins and a good season. Now can they finish it off right with a win against Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl?
14. Pittsburgh (14) - I opted not to drop Pitt after a great game against Cincy that could have gone to overtime had it not been for a mishandled snap on an extra point. Pitt's consolation prize is a showdown with North Carolina in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
15. BYU (15) - The Cougars rode out Max Hall's war of words with Utah and now they'll face Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
16. LSU (16) - After the debacle in Dallas Texas may be challenging LSU as the King of Clock Management.
17. West Virginia (17) - The Mountaineers closed the season against Rutgers with a 24-21 win. Now they get to be a part of Bobby Bowden's sendoff as the Gator Bowl will pit Bowden's present against his past.
18. Stanford (20) - The Cardinal will be anxiously awaiting to see if Toby Gerhart gets an invite to the Heisman and then will start focusing on playing the toughest defense theyve seen this season as they face Oklahoma in the Sun Bowl.
19. Nebraska (24) - I opted to jump Nebraska even after the "loss." The Huskers may have missed out on the BCS but they get a trip to San Diego to play Arizona in the Holiday Bowl.
20. Oregon State (18) - The Beavers put up a good effort against Oregon and almost pulled off the upset. Unfortunately LaMichael James and LeGarrette Blount put lesmack down.
21. Oklahoma State (23) - The Cowboys are probably still licking their wounds after a loss to Oklahoma but they now get to turn their attention toward the Cotton Bowl and Ole Miss.
22. Mississippi (25) - The Rebs didn't enjoy the type of season they expected but a showdown with Oklahoma State and a return trip to the Cotton Bowl aint bad.
23. Arizona (NR) - The Wildcats sent USC out with a loss and now face Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl.
24. Wisconsin (NR) - The Badgers closed out 2009 in the wee hours Sunday morning with a 51-10 pasting of Hawaii.
25. Utah (NR) - It may not be sexy but a showdown with California in the Poinsettia Bowl aint that bad.
