Preseason College Football Top 25 Countdown - #3 Ohio State

The college football season begins tonight and I can't wait for the gridiron action to get started. So, if we can't watch college football (for a few more hours), we're going to talk football. So let's continue the Preseason College Football Top 25 Countdown with the Top 3.

#3 Ohio State Buckeyes - Is Terrelle Pryor growns up? That seems to be the question that college football experts/commentators/fans seem to be asking. A career marred by a lack of focus and questionable passing ability now looks like it could be beginning a new chapter with the first sentence a 226 yard, 2 TD performance in the Rose Bowl. It may be irresponsible to make these kinds of comparisons but Vince Young's career at Texas took a big step forward after a 5 TD day in the '05 Rose Bowl against Michigan. Pryor is already receiving the lion's share of preseason Heisman chatter and with a strong start he could be the favorite heading into the tougher second half of the Buckeye's season.

Joining Pryor in the backfield are veteran backs Brandon Saine and Boom Herron who should head up what is always a sturdy Buckeye rushing attack. They'll have plenty of room to run behind a great offensive line led by guards Justin Boren and Bryant Browning. This year the running backs will have to be effective to open things up for Pryor and the passing game. The offense will also be helped by the return of prime receiving targets DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzenbacher.

Defensively the Buckeyes will have dynamic pass rusher Cameron Heyward back as well as linebacker Brian Rolle but Ohio State will also have to rely on a number of underclassmen who will have to grow up quick if the Buckeyes are going to contend for a national title.

Ohio State starts the season with a tougher than usual home opener against Marshall. The Thundering Herd are a far cry from some directional school. Then the Buckeyes must play an up and coming Miami team in Columbus before gimmes against Ohio and Eastern Michigan. The Big Ten schedule is what it always is and the Buckeyes will be challenged by road games at Wisconsin and Iowa. Plus, Michigan should be able to make the end of year clash in Columbus a little tighter than last year. But all things considered the schedule has enough quality win ability to land OSU in the drivers seat to play for it all...if they can manage to win them all.
