Jay Mariotti -- Accused of Stealing GF's Purse

Famed sportswriter and ESPN personality Jay Mariotti has been charged for an alleged attack on his GF last month ... and now we've learned he may have stolen her purse.
As we previously reported, Mariotti -- a frequent guest on ESPN's "Around the Horn" -- was arrested on August 21 after allegedly roughing up his girlfriend following a spat at a Santa Monica nightclub.
Now, the L.A. City Attorney has charged Mariotti with 7 misdemeanors ... including 4 domestic violence charges, false imprisonment, vandalism and grand theft.
We're told Mariotti is accused of taking his girlfriend's purse and keys -- and the purse is valued at more than $400.
If convicted on all charges -- Mariotti could spend more than a year behind bars.
I initially didn't jump on the "Jay Mariotti is a domestic abuser" bandwagon because I wanted to see how the story shook out. For all we know his girlfriend could be making up crazy stories. But then I realized if this were some athlete Mariotti would have already written a column calling him the scum sucking filth of the Earth. And if we're to believe the calcavade of incoming information, Mariotti may just be that. It's bad enough that he hit her but he also held her hostage and stole her shit? That's some controlling ass Bruce Kellogg (google it) stuff right there. So here's hoping Mariotti gets some jail time. Maybe one of the athletes he judged in the past will be in the same lockup to whip his ass.
