Hey Volunteers! Bathing Is Not Voluntary.

DOOLEY QUOTED: Hitting the showers
GoVolsXtra.com blogs » Austin Translation

Obviously, it's one Derek Dooley expected Tennessee to already have a handle on when he arrived.

But a staph infection for defensive tackle Minor Bowens among others prompted an impromptu lesson on cleanliness for the Vols on Tuesday, and despite the laughter Dooley produced after practice Wednesday, it wasn't all a joking matter.

"We've had a few staph infections, so we did a clinic yesterday on proper shower technique and soap and using a rag," Dooley said. "We put some new rags in -- y'all think I'm kidding, but I'm serious.

"We had, I told them, the worst shower discipline of any team I've ever been around. So we talked a little bit about application of soap to the rag and making sure you hit all your body. You know, you can neglect it trying to cut corners, and it shows in how you practice and elsewhere. I'm hoping we show some improvement in that."

Count that as the latest area of emphasis in Dooley's complete overhaul at UT.

Derek Dooley had a lot of problems when he walked into Tennessee. A team filled with freshmen and sophomore, transferring players, angry fans and disgruntled boosters. Little did he know know one of his biggest challenges would be teaching his players how to wash their asses properly. I never in my entire life thought I would read the quote "we had the worst shower discipline of any team I've ever been around."

Honestly I think we deserve details in this story. How were the players showering wrong? Did they just stand under the shower head thinking the locker room water had been pre mixed with soap? Or did they think AXE body spray cleans off germs and bacteria? Maybe Payton Manning could help them out and buy some orange loofahs. Anywho, good luck to the Volunteers and remember - don't just wash your whole ass; also wash your asshole.
