Circumcision Circumvention
Unlicenced circumcisions alleged in U.S.
By QMI Agency
A Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly performing circumcisions on men without a licence.
Thomas Alan Heugel, 56, of Sparta was arrested March 4 and charged after he allegedly portrayed himself as a medical doctor to his patients and performed circumcisions, body piercings and gave massages in his home.
A release from the Kent County Sheriffs Office says police believe Heugel may have performed these procedures on "many unsuspecting victims."
A police spokesman told local television station WZZM 13 that Heugel had a mini operating room in his home, he wore a lab coat and administered local anesthetic before doing any of the procedures. He posted ads on Craigslist and adult website adam4adam.com.
The spokesman also said all the individuals who had circumcisions consented to the procedure, although police aren't sure why.
Police say Heugel also claimed to be a former army doctor, but a neighbour told WZZM 13 that Heugel said he was "a retired EMT or something."
This was bound to happen sooner or later. Ever since ESPN brought us the story of Tim Tebow performing circumcisions overseas in the offseason middle aged men have felt the need to pitch in and help. They just want to be good samaritans like Timothy. I don't blame Mr. Heugel for a second. I blame the men who allowed him to snip their foreskins. I may not be the most cautious person in the world but before I let some dude take a scalpel to my man region he better show me some better credentials than a lab coat and a home operating room. Its best to leave these types of operations to real doctors and Heisman Trophy winners.
