Back Up the Cuss Bus
California cries foul, declares week-long ban on cussing
The Associated Press
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Assembly has passed a resolution that would establish the first week of March as "Cuss Free Week" throughout the state.
The measure was approved on a voice vote Thursday and will be considered by the state Senate next week.
It was inspired by a South Pasadena teenager who started a No Cussing Club at his junior high school in 2007, a movement that led to similar clubs in every state and 20 countries.
The youth, McKay Hatch, traveled to Sacramento with his family to support the resolution. He sees a link between foul-mouthed incivility and other forms of problem behavior, such as drug use and bullying.
The teen says he hopes legislatures in other states adopt similar resolutions.
What's the big deal here? Curse words are just that...words. You don't have to give them power by being offended by them. I'm not saying I aspire to speak like a sailor or Bob Saget but a few curses here and there adds to the color of my language and gets my point across better. And what the hell is the link between cussing and drug use? I'll grant you that most meth heads probably cuss but I don't think its a gateway action. I'm sure I could stop cussing and still have a love for the bottle.
But everyone is obsessed with offensive speech these days. These people are no different than the ones trying to ban the word "retard" in Massachusetts. That's especially a shame because I'm pretty sure that word describes half of all Celtics fans with douchebags covering the second half. PC is taking over.

WHEN: Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
WHERE:
Corner of Fair Oaks Ave. and Mission St. in South Pasadena, CA
South Pasadena is where this started and this is where we must take a stand to end it!
WHY:
The California State Assembly is considering a resolution designating the first week of March every year as “Cuss-Free Week” in California.
Wasting legislator time and taxpayer money to push through a "Cuss-Free Week" while we’re in the middle of a HUGE budgetary crisis is BULLSHIT. This resolution places a superstitious, puritanical, “moral” judgment about the use of “bad” words on its people. We say, keep your religious “morality” out of OUR state laws!
Should the state be encouraging people to restrict their right to free speech and expression? Should the state be making religious moral judgments about the use of "bad" words? FUCK no!
CALL TO ACTION:
Call Senator Darrell Steinberg's office @ 916-651-4006 916-651-4006 to THANK HIM for putting consideration of this "Cuss Free Week" resolution on hold. Then, ask him to remove this wasteful, backward resolution from ever being considered.
