Linsanity - Floyd Mayweather Is Insane, Not Linsane

Floyd Mayweather questions Jeremy Lin
By Ian Begley/Special to ESPNNewYork.com

Boxer Floyd Mayweather believes that New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin is getting national attention because of his race, rather than his exceptional play.

Lin's agent, Roger Montgomery, didn't immediately respond to a text message sent by ESPNNewYork.com. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's top adviser, didn't return a phone call from The Associated Press.

Lin has become the talk of the NBA -- and the sports world at large -- for his unprecedented play over the last five games.

Lin is the first player in league history to have at least 20 points and seven assists in each of his four career starts. The Harvard grad has scored 109 points in his first four career starts, which is the most by any player since the NBA and ABA merged in 1976. In his last five games -- all Knicks wins -- the 23-year-old is averaging 26.8 points and 8 assists.

Lin, an Asian American, is the first American-born player of Taiwanese or Chinese descent to play in the NBA.

I guess I'll start with the obvious question of - when did Floyd Mayweather (pictured above showing his appreciation for Mexican culture) become an expert on basketball and/or race relations? Secondly, why is anyone associated with ESPN writing this story? If Money Mayweather wants to get on his twitter and spout ignorant about reverse racism in sports reportage he can go right ahead but ESPN doesn't have to give him a wider audience.

Floyd Mayweather may keep up with box scores for all I know but he failed to account for the fact that the Knicks were in their doldrums when an underdog from Harvard, who had been let go by a few teams, helped them turn it around with some excellent play. If he were black, with all the same other background, the story would be the same. But continue to tell us how black athletes don't get a fair shake in the NBA, Floyd. Those Lebron James and Kobe Bryant fellas can't seem to get a lick of attention.

Plus I have to have Lin's back because he sleeps on his brother's couch, which is right up my alley
