Jerry tries Jedi Mind Trick

Jerry Jones Staring Down Wade Phillips’ Career
by HG/YouBeenBlinded.com

Going into the playoffs it was assumed that Wade Phillips had to win a game to remain as the Dallas Cowboys head coach. Wade and the ‘Boys dominated the Philadelphia Eagles as they had in two previous meetings. All good, right? Wrong. Dallas got handled 34-3 in the Divisional round by the Vikings and owner Jerry Jones spent the final minutes of the game hovering over Wade Phillips’ shoulders.

The loss drops Phillips to 1-5 in the playoffs but the Cowboys should bring him back. He’s won the NFC East two of the last three years and he turned the defense around when he became the coordinator. Losing to a better team shouldn’t cause panic, but this is what happens after playoff losses.

So I went to Lubbock to check out this weekend's playoff games but I ended up sleeping through pretty much everything Sunday. What little I did see was Jerry Jones staring a hole through poor Wade Phillips. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating Wade keeping his job. I'm pretty sure the performance against Minnesota sealed his fate, but why the hell did Jerry Jones feel the need to shuffle down to field level and wish death on Wade?

The team already has to suffer an embarrassing loss (to Brett Favre no less) and now they have to have their boss trot down to the field and put the cherry on top. For once, stay in the box and leave people alone.

UPDATE: Dallas Cowboys to retain Wade Phillips/by Ed Werder/ESPN

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has decided that head coach Wade Phillips will return next season despite the team's 34-3 loss Sunday to the Minnesota Vikings, a high-ranking team source said Monday.

There has been no decision on whether to negotiate an extension of Phillips' current contract, the source said. The Cowboys control Phillips' fate because they have an option for the 2010 season under terms of Phillips' original contract that will pay him close to the $3 million he earned this season when he served as the league's only head coach-defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys have made no official announcement on Phillips' future.

Maybe I made too much of the Minneapolis Staredown. It looks like Jerry knows he's not getting Bill Cowher and he'd rather ride out one more year with Wade Phillips. So Wade gets one more lame duck season. I doubt Jason Garrett will be as lucky.
